MERCY BALL
The Mercy Ball, held on the first Saturday of December each year, is the single largest fundraising event held for the Friends of Mercy.
The first Mercy Ball was held in 1936 and this prestigious event has become the traditional kick-off for Long Island’s Christmas season.
One of the many traditions at the ball is the Mercy Honor Guard, comprised of high school seniors who escort the Grand March of dignitaries into the ballroom. The tradition of the Honor Guard originated in 1942, when high school boys substituted for their older brothers, who went off to serve in World War II, who were members of the traditional military Honor Guard.
If interested in being an Honor Guard, a senior student must be nominated by a member of the Friends of Mercy organization.
Please contact a Friend of Mercy member and he will explain the process as well as give you paperwork to be submitted to the nominating committee. Application process opens in September of the current year.
The Mercy Ball provides us the opportunity to honor and support our community hospital. Additionally, we honor three distinguished individuals for their major contributions to the success of Mercy Hospital: Theodore Roosevelt Award for Outstanding Service, Sister Nadine Casey CIJ Award, & Bishop McGann Lifetime Achievement Award.

Proceeds & Support
Proceeds 2024
All proceeds will support the Women’s Imaging Center, a project that signifies a commitment to redefining the healthcare experience for women. The center’s aesthetics will be elevated, featuring an enclosed waiting room that will boast thoughtfully chosen décor, ensuring a soothing and pleasant environment for patients during a potentially angst driven time. Each examination room will be renovated offering new furnishings with a spa like atmosphere. Every corner has been meticulously designed to create a space that radiates peace, promoting a tranquil setting for our valued patients at Mercy Hospital.
In every successful healthcare journey, an exceptional patient experience is ensured by the collaboration of outstanding medical professionals and cutting-edge technology, both contributing to the highest standard of care.
We hold the belief that every woman coming to The Women’s Imaging Center should receive more than just medical care; she deserves an encounter that is hopeful and encouraging. A beautiful environment will contribute to a positive state of mind.
